Cat going through our Water Therapy Rehabilitation

Small Animal Physical Rehabilitation Service

We believe that all patients should have the opportunity to have physical rehabilitation following injury or surgery of the musculoskeletal or neurologic systems. Our goal is to provide the highest standard of rehabilitative care and personal attention to each patient and their owner.

The Small Animal Physical Rehabilitation Service at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center is a worldwide leader in the area of physical rehabilitation of small animals. Board-certified Diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, residents in training, physical therapists, veterinary assistants, and board-certified veterinary surgeons and neurologists provide state-of-the-art care for patients following surgical or medical management of musculoskeletal and neurologic disorders. State-of-the-art rehabilitation modalities, full-service facilities, cutting-edge technologies including stem cell therapy, platelet-rich plasma, and other treatments are available.

In addition to diagnostic capabilities in the hospital, additional advanced assessment tools are also available to evaluate patients.

Most patients derive significant benefit from a period of physical rehabilitation following major surgery to achieve a quicker and more complete return to function. Patients receiving medical management for neurologic or orthopedic conditions such as osteoarthritis may also derive significant benefit from physical rehabilitation.

The therapists and resources of the Physical Rehabilitation Service at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine allow your veterinarian to provide these services that may otherwise be difficult or impractical to offer. Patients may be scheduled for an appointment by your veterinarian.
